Water Quality:
Glen reviews the
monitoring sites. Yearly
phosphorous average was 30. Secci disk yearly average was 11.6. Chlorophyll continues to drop, which is
a good sign. Received a grant in
Dec. 2009 for water monitoring ($500-$800 per year, it typically costs). The DNR is having an open house for
Prevention Strategies Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS). 2006 MN DOT reviews access closures near
the lake. They proposed closing 7
access points and putting in an overpass.
This was to be completed in 2010, but there is currently no funding for
it. No new timeline. Kandiyohi Co 90 would be the first
overpass and Co 25 would be the second one. A question was asked about milfoil in
Eagle Lake. WE only have Northern
milfoil which is natural to the lake.
Special Guest: Cory Netland –
Hawk Creek Coordinator – The Hawk Creek Watershed Project helps put conservation
on the landscape. They are a dues
paying member of Eagle Lake Association.
We have shared goals, to improve water quality. 88% of our watershe is agriculture. They have been collecting samples on the
following lakes: Foot, Willmar,
Swan, Skatis, Point, Long, Ringo. Point is
similar to Eagle, but the others are impaired. They support the efforts of the Eagle
Lake Association. They have
received a grant to monitor a few more lakes (St. John’s, East Twin, West Twin,
West Solomon), so they would have more data to compare. They do work on rain gardens in urban
areas or near lakes. They are a
shallow depression with infiltration.
Cost sharing is available to homeowners. They also have some money to help with
buffer strips and landscaping for improving water quality and other lake
friendly things. Their annual
meeting is February 3 at the KEC (AM meeting and then lunch). Glen asked about getting education for
rain gardens, buffer strips, etc.
Cory will work with the board and any interested owners. Steep slopes are a great place to
start! There are also grants for
pollutant reductions. The Eagle
Lake website has information on rain gardens. Contact Glen, if you are interested in
programs/projects, on your property, to help improve the water quality in Eagle
Lake.
Recycling: This service is
provided by West Central Sanitation.

Recycling Center in Willmar.

will be printed in 2010 – Deanna Dorsey volunteered to help with this
project.

Adjourned: 8:05 PM
